How to Remove Your Makeup.

Makeup can transform your appearance and boost your confidence, but it’s important to know how to remove your makeup properly to avoid damaging your skin. Leaving makeup on overnight will clog pores which lead to breakouts and the formation of a microcomedone.  It will also cause premature aging due to the breakdown of collagen. Here are some tips on how to properly remove makeup and maintain healthy skin.

1. The best way to wash your face is to Start with Clean Hands

Before You begin removing your makeup, wash your hands thoroughly.  This will prevent transferring any bacteria or dirt from your hands to your face.  Use a mild unscented soap to cleans your hands.

2. Choose the right Cleanser

Selecting the right cleanser is crucial when removing makeup.  Different cleansers are formulated for different skin concerns and not all cleansers are formulated the same.   Some can strip the beneficial oil and bacteria of your skin, disrupting the protective barrier on your skin.

If you are having dry skin struggles there are a few things you can do to FIND THE ROOT CAUSE.   Harsh Soaps, microbiome out of balance, and food sensitivities can all contribute to chronic dry skin issues.

3. dry Cleans method for washing your face

Dry cleans means to apply your makeup remover and cleanser to the face without adding water.  Adding water dilutes your products. Its important to understand that this first cleans removes most of the makeup and the debris/oil from your skin. There is always some residual left behind. Sleeping with makeup prevents cellular turnover which results in the breakdown of healthy collagen. To fully cleanse the skin you will need to wash your face twice.

If you are not wearing any makeup we still recommend you Dry Cleans.  This ensures you get the most out of your product and effectively get the dirt and oil off your face.

4. Use a Makeup Remover

The best makeup removers are a byphasse.  Which means they are oil and water.  Don’t worry if you have oily skin, a byphasse makeup remover will not make your skin oily. The protective barrier on our skin is made of oil and water, a byphasse makeup remover will protect and repair the protective barrier.  Massage into the skin for 30-60 seconds. Then place your cleanser directly on top of the makeup remover.

5. Use a cleansing pad

A cleansing pad can help remove makeup and dirt more effectively than just using your hands.  We love this pad because its easy to wash and fully dry after each use.  Use it in a circular motion to massage the cleanser into your skin. This will help loosen dirt and makeup, and exfoliate dead skin cells.

6. Be Gentle

When removing makeup, its important to be gently with your skin.  Avoid rubbing too hard, as this can cause irritation and damage to your skin.   Pay special attention to the eye area using a circular motion towards the nose.  Use gentle circular motions around the brow and small circles into your 11’s (that little area between your eye brows) and take your time to ensure that all makeup is removed.

7. Don't forget your eyes

Eye makeup can be especially stubborn, so its important to take extra care when removing it.  Use a separate cotton pad or cloth with makeup remover for each eye.  Gently press the cotton pad or cloth on each eye and wait 30-60 seconds.  Then gently wipe away the makeup from your eyelids and lashes.  We also recommend doing a second wipe with fresh cotton pads or cloths.

8. Rince thoroughly

Its important to rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water.  Wet your hands with water and gently rub all over your face, then rinse your hands, splash your face with water and gently rub all over your face.  Repeat.  This will help to remove any remaining cleanser and makeup residue.  Make sure to rinse around your hair and jawline, as these areas can often be missed.

9. second cleans

For the second cleanse place your cleanser directly onto your skin and massage it in thoroughly. Doing a dry cleans is ideal but not necessary for the second cleans.   If you are using the dry cleans method and the cleanser begins to dry out it is a sign that you have dry skin.  We recommend adding a little alcohol-free toner to the skin if needed.  Massage for 30 seconds.  Then wet the fingers and continue to massage for another 30 seconds.  We want to avoid diluting the cleanser so we don’t add water to the face before cleansing.

Repeat step 8: Rinse Thoroughly.

Once you have fully rinsed your face be sure to pat it dry with a clean soft towel.  Avoid rubbing your skin, as this can cause irritation.  Instead, gently blot your face to remove any excess water.

10. Pat Dry

Once you have fully rinsed your face be sure to pat it dry with a clean soft towel.  Avoid rubbing your skin, as this can cause irritation.  Instead, gently blot your face to remove any excess water.

Be Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to removing makeup. Make sure to remove your makeup every night before bed, even if you’re tired or in a rush.  This will help[ to prevent breakouts and keep your skin looking healthy.

Properly removing your makeup is essential for maintaining healthy skin.  By choosing the right cleanser, using a makeup remover, using the double cleanse and dry cleanse methods, being gentle with your skin and following up with the right toner and moisturizers, you can ensure that all makeup is removed, and your skin is left clean and hydrated.  Remember to avoid harsh products and be consistent with your makeup removal routine.
